UGC NET exam is taking place between 21 June and 30 June 2025. This test is for people who want to become Assistant Professors get a Junior Research Fellowship JRF or apply for a Ph.D. in colleges and universities in India. Paper 1 explained below.

Paper 1 Syllabus – What You’ll Be Tested On

Paper 1 checks how good you are at teaching, doing research, and thinking clearly. It has 10 parts (called units). Let’s break it down:


Unit 1: Teaching Aptitude

This part checks how well you understand teaching.

  • What is teaching, and why do we do it?
  • Different levels of teaching (like memory-based or thinking deeply).
  • Types of learners – teens and adults, and how they learn.
  • What affects good teaching (like the teacher, tools, or environment)?
  • Different teaching methods – offline, online, etc.
  • Types of tests and how we check what students learned.

Unit 2: Research Aptitude

This part is about doing research.

  • What is research and what are its types?
  • Ways to do research (like surveys or experiments).
  • Steps to do research the right way.
  • How to write research papers and articles.
  • Using computers and the internet for research.
  • Ethics (doing research the right and honest way).

Unit 3: Comprehension

You’ll get a short passage to read, and then answer questions about it. It checks your understanding.


Unit 4: Communication

This checks how well you communicate.

  • What communication means and its types.
  • Speaking, writing, body language, group talks, classroom talk.
  • Things that make communication fail.
  • Media’s role in society.

Unit 5: Mathematical Reasoning & Aptitude

This is about basic math skills and patterns.

  • Number patterns, letter patterns, codes.
  • Math skills like fractions, time & distance, profit & loss, interest, and percentages.

Unit 6: Logical Reasoning

Here, you’ll answer questions based on logic.

  • Understanding arguments and reasoning.
  • Deductive and inductive thinking.
  • Analogies and Venn diagrams.
  • Basics of Indian logic and different ways of knowing (like seeing, hearing, etc.).

Unit 7: Data Interpretation

This part tests how you understand data.

  • Where data comes from and how it’s used.
  • Reading bar graphs, pie charts, tables, etc.
  • Understanding what data says.

Unit 8: ICT (Information and Communication Technology)

This is about using technology in education and life.

  • Common tech words and shortcuts.
  • Basics of email, video calls, internet, etc.
  • Online tools used in education.
  • Using tech for good governance.

Unit 9: People, Development & Environment

This part is about how people and the environment affect each other.

  • Sustainable development and global goals.
  • Human impact on nature.
  • Pollution, climate change, waste management.
  • Natural resources like wind, water, and solar energy.
  • Natural disasters and how to handle them.
  • Laws and world agreements to protect nature (like Paris Agreement, Kyoto Protocol, etc.).

Unit 10: Higher Education System

This part is about how education works in India.

  • How education has changed after independence.
  • Traditional and new learning styles.
  • Skill-based and technical education.
  • Value and environmental education.
